Tattoo Aftercare Instructions

Congratulations on your new tattoo! Now comes the crucial step of ensuring it heals beautifully and maintains its vibrant colors for years to come. At Gargoyle Tattoo Studio, we’ve crafted these aftercare instructions to guide you through the process:

Cleanliness is Key:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap before touching your tattoo.
  • Remove the bandage after 2-3 hours, but refrain from re-bandaging.
  • Gently wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap. Avoid using washcloths or anything abrasive. Pat the area dry with clean paper towels. Let it dry for the day start applying ointment from 2nd day.

Moisturize Wisely:

  • Apply a thin layer of ointment like Bepanthen, Aquaphor, or a dedicated tattoo aftercare product. Over-applying can clog pores and hinder healing.
  • Wash, dry, and re-apply ointment twice daily for the first two weeks, or as needed.

Comfort and Protection:

  • Wear loose, breathable clothing over your tattoo for the first two weeks. Avoid tight or abrasive materials that could irritate the healing skin.
  • For foot tattoos: Go barefoot as much as possible. If shoes are necessary, wrap your clean tattoo in saran wrap, then wear a clean cotton sock before putting on your shoe. Avoid sandals or flip-flops to prevent chafing and damage.

The Healing Process:

  • It’s normal for your tattoo to peel! Resist the urge to pick or scratch the scabbing skin, as this can lead to scarring and loss of ink.
  • After two weeks, switch to a mild, white, unscented lotion free of dyes or perfumes. Apply it 1-2 times daily for at least two weeks.

Things to Avoid:

  • Do not: pick, scratch, peel, rub, or irritate your tattoo.
  • Avoid: soaking your tattoo in baths, swimming pools, or hot tubs for at least 2 weeks. Showers are okay, but keep them brief and avoid direct water pressure.
  • Sun exposure is a no-go for at least 3 weeks. After that, always use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to protect the delicate skin and vibrant colors.
  • Skip tight clothing, abrasive materials, and jewelry that could rub against your tattoo and disrupt healing.
  • Discourage anyone from touching your tattoo unless they wash their hands thoroughly first.
  • Be cautious with gym equipment: Clean it thoroughly before use to prevent the spread of bacteria.
